The auditor examined manufacturing processes directly on the production floor, their management, interconnections, inspections, and employees’ ability to respond to non-standard situations. This is where it becomes clear whether a quality system truly functions in daily practice or remains only on paper.
Auditing the Auditor: An Exceptional Situation
A unique aspect of this surveillance audit was its extraordinary format. Another auditor from the UK attended with the task of auditing the auditor himself—verifying that all required areas were properly reviewed, nothing was overlooked, and that the audit was conducted strictly in accordance with auditing methodology.
In addition, the entire process was monitored by an independent interpreter who translated every word recorded during the audit. This further increased the demands and transparency of the entire procedure.
